The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the local Organizing Committee for the 13th African Games ‘’Accra2023’’ has launched a 100-day countdown to the commencement of the 13th edition of the Games on Wednesday 29, November 2023.
Activities organised to mark the countdown ceremony included an inspection tour of the facilities under construction which would host the games, being constructed at Borteyman and the University of Ghana.
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Alhaji Dr.Mahamudu Bamumia declared the day duly launched at a short ceremony on the premises of the University of Ghana.
In his speech, he charged the local organising committee for the games to portray all the ideals and aspirations of the country during the games.
He stated that the next 100 days are extremely crucial and marks a point of no return for the country, as far as the hosting of the Games is concerned.
The Vice President pledged the full commitment of Government to ensure that all visitors to arrive in the country are given the needed seurity to enjoy the best hospitality Ghana has to offer.
On his part, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif expressed his immense excitement for a very important ceremony which ushers the country closer to the hosting of the Games.
According to the Minister, the forthcoming 13th African Games carries immense significance for national development, adding that beyond the thrill of the competition, the event serves as a catalyst for progress and growth.
‘’The construction of state-of-the-art sports facilities in the country, not only provides a platform for athletic excellence, but also contributes to the overall infrastructure development, leaving a legacy for generations to come’’, he added.
He called on all stakeholders to seize this opportunity to strengthen the bonds that unite Africans, to showcase the beauty of the diverse cultures and collective aspirations for a better continent.
Ghana will host the games for the first time in March 2024 with 54 countries participating in 30 sporting disciplines, 8 of which will be qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
