2023 NATIONAL PARA POWERLIFTING COMPETITION IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD DISABILITY DAY – 6TH DECEMBER 2023 FROM 3:00PM AT THE AfPC SECRETARIAT, NORTH RIDGE, ACCRA
The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC-Ghana) in collaboration with the France Embassy in Ghana, will tomorrow 6th December 2023 organize a National Para Powerlifting competition involving over 50 Para Powerlifters (athletes) from across 5 regions of Ghana.
The event which will start from 3:00PM at the African Paralympic Committee Secretariat, North Ridge, Accra near the Alisa Hotel, is part of NPC – Ghana’s activities marking this year’s international Day for persons with disabilities, under the theme, ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by persons with disabilities’.
Significantly, the event will also serve as a national ranking for the athletes, identification and selection of potential athletes in preparation towards mandatory qualification events for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games scheduled to take place from 28th August to 8th September, 2024.
The mandatory qualifiers include: 14th Fazza Dubai 2024 World Cup, Dubai, UAE in February; Sharm El Sheik 2024 World Cup, Egypt, March; Pattaya 2024 World Cup, Pattaya, Thailand in April; Tbilisi 2024 World Cup, Tbilisi, Georgia, April; Cancun 2024 World Cup, Cancun, Mexico in May and Manchester 2024 World Cup, Manchester, UK in June
Meanwhile, the NPC Board will also seize the opportunity to distribute various Para sports equipment and logistics to some Federations to facilitate the development and promotion of their respective sports in the country. The equipment which were donations from Korea NPC and Japan for the hosting of the 1st African Para Games include: multi-purpose para sports wheelchairs, clutches, footballs, tennis balls, sitting volleyballs and post, footballs for visually impaired, eyes-shades for blind sports, sportswear, etc.
The 2023 National Para powerlifting competition which is solely sponsored by the France Embassy, will also be used to launch Women’s Amputee Football in Ghana.
The event willl be graced and witnessed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustafa Ussif (MP), H.E. Jules-Armand Aniambossou, French Ambassador to Ghana, the Director General, NSA, Executive Board Members of the NPC-Ghana, representatives of various Para Sports Federations, Supporters among others.
