German-born Ghanaian forward Kwasi Okyere Wriedt was on the scoresheet for Holstein Kiel in their home victory over former Bundesliga outfit Hamburg on Sunday afternoon.
Wriedt’s strike was the difference between Holstein and Hamburg in a keenly contested encounter staged at the Holstein-Stadion.
Regardless of the newfound form of Hamburg, it was Kiel that started on the front foot and they were rewarded with the game’s opener after 13 minutes.
Ex-Bayern Munich forward Okyere Wriedt was responsible for breaking the deadlock after he was set up by Dutch defender Marco Komenda.
After the goal, it was all Hamburg as they sought for an equalizer peppering the goal area of the home side on countless occasions but were repelled by goalkeeper Thomas Dahne or wayward shooting as the first stanza came to a close.
It was more of the same in the second half but despite the huff and puff on the part of Hamburg, it was Holstein Kiel that carried the victory.
Wriedt lasted 66 minutes in the game before he was replaced by Austrian midfielder Benedikt Pichler.
