Two Featherweight Isaac Dogboe and Joet Gonzalez complete for the WBO International Featherweight Title.
Two-time world championship challenger Isaac Dogboe fights Joet for the WBO international featherweight title.
Dogboe is a former WBO junior-featherweight world champion, but he will pose nothing like the power Gonzalez has already faced in reigning WBC champion Shakur Stevenson or Emanuel Navarrete. Both beat him by unanimous decision, but he showed he can use his reach, box solidly and withstand an awful lot of punishment.
Ahead Of today’s bout, Dogboe said, “One thing I believe is that without risk there is no reward. I love the challenge. I’m always willing to go in there with whoever is in front of me. I’m really looking forward to this fight. I know that Joet is going to bring it. I’m really looking forward to what he’s going to bring”.
Dogboe after his two losses to the Mexican, he took a brief break from boxing to focus on studying, fulfilling a lifelong regret at not going to university.
Since then, he has not always convinced – winning two of his three fights by mixed decision and one by TKO.
Dogboe’s most recent fight was in November last year, when he beat Christopher Diaz for the NABO featherweight championship, winning by majority decision.
Gonzales, likewise, found his level against Navarrete. “I took a lot from the Navarrete fight,” Gonzalez says. “You live and learn each and every day. From that fight, I think I showed most of the people what I’m about and what I’m willing to do to get my hand raised.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get my hand raised, but I was in that fight for all 12 rounds. If I was hurt, I wouldn’t have fought the way I fought. For the most part, I made that fight exciting. But it is what it is, and now I can’t wait to face Isaac Dogboe.”
As it stands, Joet Gonzalez is in the unusual position where the defeats on his record have done little to dampen his reputation.
Gonzalez only loses to the greats and there is nobody suggesting he does not deserve a third world title shot. To get there, though, he first has to beat Isaac Dogboe in an eliminator for the WBC belt, with Gonzalez’s WBO International title also on the line.
Gonzalez’s last action was in March this year when he won the WBO strap against Jeo Santisima.
Gonzalez has 28 professional bouts and lost just twice.
The winner could face Mexico’s Emmanuel Navarrete who currently holds the WBO Featherweight Title in the coming months.
