Elizabeth Ayebea has become the defender with the most assists at Berry Ladies FC in the 2022/20223 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League after setting up Victoria Salifu on her goal against Police Ladies FC last Saturday at Achimota Park.
Elizabeth Ayebea’s assist was her 3rd this season and her 13th appearance this season, equaling Jafaru Rahama’s season’s assist since her loan move.
Elizabeth Ayebea stressed “I’m all for the team” despite delight at the assists.
“But, when you do stuff like that and you’re in the Women’s Premier League against some unbelievable defenders, it’s always nice to put yourself at the top there,” she told Berry Ladies FC’s media team.
Elizabeth Ayebea admits that “during the world cup break, I just wanted to try to get back and do more, make a difference for myself this season”.
“During trainings, Regina Donkor, Comfort Yeboah and I try hard to switch positions more often to test ourselves,” Elizabeth said. “Full-back has evolved a lot and it’s about going forward now as well as defending, but first and foremost, I want to defend.”
Comfort Yeboah has been part of Berry Ladies Football Club first-team squad since the commencement of the 2022/2023 league, while Martha Appiah is experienced tries different roles by moving forward more often trusting these four pillars to do the bit as full backs.
Berry Ladies FC Coach Freeman Amponsah commented “a great defender and personality” and recalled Elizabeth’s arrival to Halifax then to Berry Ladies FC.
“We knew she was an exceptional talent,” Coach Freeman said while pointing out that “she was not that good” defensively and had to be told what she had to improve to play more than she did during her first season at Berries.
“Now she obviously is a proper defender and still sets up balls,” he added. “It’s a great number and really special – and the same for Jafaru Rahama, I heard now. It’s crazy. I believe when she puts in more work, she will be named one of the top defenders in Women’s Premier League soon”
