Accra, Ghana – July 30, 2024 – The Rugby League Federation Ghana proudly announces the successful completion of the 2024 Origins Cup and Rugby League 13s Championship, held at the University of Ghana. Bulls RLFC, African Warriors RLFC, and GIWA-MCNEIL XIII emerged as champions in their respective categories.
2024 Rugby League 13s Championship
In the men’s division, Bulls RLFC demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament, finishing on top of the league table with 18 points. Skolars secured second place with 15 points, while Accra Panthers placed third with 10 points. Accra Majestics Academy, African Warriors, and Nungua Tigers rounded out the top six, finishing in fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved this season,” said Bulls RLFC captain, Collins Ofosu. “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team. Our focus was always on winning every game, and we’re thrilled to see that our efforts have paid off.”
In the youth division, African Warriors RLFC emerged as champions with 15 points, having won five out of six games. This marks their third championship win. Accra Panthers, Skolars, and Nungua Tigers followed in second, third, and fourth places, respectively.
“We are overjoyed to win the Youth Championship for the third time,” said African Warriors RLFC captain, Richard Kyei. “This victory is a result of the relentless effort and unity of our players. We remain committed to maintaining our high standards and inspiring the next generation of rugby league players.”
Riddick Alibah, Greater Accra Regional Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the championship’s success, stating, “This year’s tournament has showcased the immense talent and passion within our rugby league community. Congratulations to both Bulls RLFC and African Warriors RLFC for their well-deserved victories. The competition was fierce, but these teams exemplified excellence and sportsmanship.”
2024 Origins Cup
The Origins Cup brought together 17 outstanding players selected from all clubs during the 13s Championship. These players were grouped into two teams: GIWA-MCNEIL XIII and Safi XIII. The tournament highlighted the exceptional skills of these athletes and played a vital role in selecting players for the National Team A and the National Team B, known as the President’s Team.
General Manager Jafaru Awudu Mustapha expressed his satisfaction, saying, “The Origins Cup was a fantastic display of the incredible talent we have in Ghana. It provided a platform for our players to shine and demonstrate their skills on a larger stage.”
President of the Rugby League Federation Ghana, Juliana Storey, added, “Expanding the Origins Cup to include youth for the first time was a significant step in nurturing future stars and growing the sport across all age groups. We are thrilled with the success of this year’s event.”
