“Accra Sports Stadium almost ready to host Ghana vs Sudan clash” – Yaw Ampofo Ankrah
The countdown continues to what promises to be a make or break match for Ghana as the Black Stars plot towards another African cup of nations appearance in Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) finally approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host the 2025 Afcon qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.
The Black Stars face the rising Falcons of Jediane in the third round of qualifying games.
For a country once famed for football exploits on the continent and beyond, the current state of affairs is nothing short of embarrassing.
The ultimate humiliation of not having a certified venue to host a top class international was narrowly averted when CAF at the eleventh hour approved the capital’s premier football edifice to host the encounter.
So how ready is the Accra sports stadium ? Especially the controversial pitch about which so much has been said and written ?
I took a tour of the venue with just days to the game and coincidentally, I encountered key sports administrators including the Ghana FA President and his executives, the national sports authority hierarchy, as well as other officials who were on hand to see how work was progressing to get the venue in shape.
The urgency and anxiety of Ghana FA officials monitoring work being supervised by Green Grass Technology was apparent for any observer to note. The venue is within touching distance of being 100% ready for the all important fixture.
The wait is almost over as the moment of truth beckons with a mixture of growing tension, suspense and the excitement of the unknown.
