Bulldog, a student from Abakrampa SHTS, emerged as the victor in the Elmina Bakatue Festival Pillow Fight Championship, which took place at the picturesque Elmina Castle Beach.
This exciting competition was organized by Pillow Fight Ghana in conjunction with the Elmina Tranditional Council and Dreamland Sports Plus, as an integral part of the 2023 Bakatue Festival.
The event showcased six talented men, armed with specialized pillows instead of traditional boxing gloves, engaging in an exhilarating display of skill and agility.
Fight One: Isaac Opare vs. Raphael
In the opening bout, Isaac Opare squared off against Raphael. After a fierce exchange of pillow strikes, Raphael emerged as the victor, showcasing his strength and skill.
Fight Two: James Mensah vs. Isaac Essel
The second matchup featured James Mensah, affectionately known as “gogo,” against Isaac Essel. With an impressive display of agility and technique, James Mensah triumphed, earning his place in the next round.
Fight Three: Adams vs. Bulldog
Adams and Bulldog took the stage for the third fight. In a heated battle, Bulldog demonstrated exceptional resilience and strategic pillow maneuvering, ultimately emerging victorious.
Fight Four: Edward Mensah vs. Alfred Prah
Edward Mensah and Alfred Prah engaged in a thrilling exchange of pillow blows in the fourth bout. The contest proved to be fiercely competitive, with both contenders displaying remarkable stamina. However, Edward Mensah was adjudged the winner.
Round Two: Raphael vs. James Mensah
In the second round of the championship, Raphael faced off against James Mensah (aka “gogo”). Both fighters showcased incredible technique and determination. Ultimately, Raphael’s precision strikes secured his advancement to the final round.
Round Two: Bulldog vs. Edward Mensah
Bulldog returned to the ring for the second round, pitted against Edward Mensah. With unwavering focus and a formidable display of pillow-fighting prowess, Bulldog emerged as the victor, advancing to the championship match.
3rd and 4th Position Match: James Mensah vs. Edward Mensah
In the battle for the third and fourth positions, James Mensah (aka “gogo”) faced off against Edward Mensah. The clash between the two talented contenders showcased their exceptional athleticism. In the end, Edward Mensah secured the third-place position, leaving James Mensah with an honorable fourth-place finish.
1st and 2nd Position Match: Bulldog vs. Raphael Ansah
The final showdown for the championship title featured Bulldog against Raphael Ansah. With the entire crowd on the edge of their seats, Bulldog exhibited remarkable agility, precision, and strength in his pillow-fighting techniques. After an exhilarating contest, Bulldog emerged as the undisputed champion of the Bakatue Festival Pillow Fight Championship, cementing his place in history.
The winners earned a title belt products from cct Group Company Ltd and Bel Acqua.
About Bakatue Festival
The Bakatue Festival, observed in the Central Region of Ghana, is a cherished celebration among the Elmina community. With roots dating back to 1847, this vibrant festival takes place on the first Tuesday of July each year.
Signifying the commencement of the fishing season in Elmina, the festival’s name, “Bakatue,” originates from the Fante dialect and represents the draining of a lagoon.
During the festival, a grand royal procession engages all members of the Elmina royal family, including chiefs and stool carriers. Decorated palanquins transport esteemed chiefs from surrounding towns within the Elmina paramount area.
