The 2nd Edition of the Annual Independence Tennis Carnival came off on Saturday 11th March 2023 at the Air Force Officers’ Mess Tennis Court to celebrate Ghana’s 66th Independence Day and also served as a reunion to the Tennis fraternity.
The 2023 edition saw about 30 Tennis players from the Air Force Officers’ Tennis Club, Stadium Tennis Club, Burma Camp Tennis Club, and other tennis players including Ghana’s football Icon Asamoah Gyan and seasoned sports journalist Veronica Commey.
Leader of the organizing team Akunu Dake who doubles as the chairman of the stadium tennis club in an interaction with the media highlighted the importance of the carnival to the tennis fraternity and also the general public as a sport for national development.
“This is not just a get-together but also an avenue for us to interact and discuss some of the issues our country is batting with and see how best we can use our sport as a tool to tackle it”, Mr. Dake added.
Chairman Akunu further stated that the annual carnival aims to help association members stay fit, healthy, and the welfare of their members.
“I will encourage the upcoming tennis players to take opportunity of events like these and learn from the experience and socialize
to build their career, he added.
The 2nd edition of the Tennis Carnival was sponsored by Ecobank and the benevolence of others.
