Black Stars captain Andre Ayew helped Al Sadd annex the Emir Cup in Qatar on Friday night.
Ayew’s Al Sadd, coached by legendary Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez, clinched the trophy on penalty shootout after a one-all stalemate with Al Rayyan.
Former Arsenal midfield linchpin Santi Carzola broke the deadlock for Al Sadd however Al Rayyan pegged them back to send the game to penalty shootout but the reigning Qatar Super League champions held their nerve to add yet another trophy to their cabinet.
Ayew, 31, lasted 86 minutes in the game to clinch his maiden trophy for Al Sadd after joining the Qatari outfit on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
The Swansea City icon will hope the victory in the Emir Cup will serve as good omen for the Black Stars as the four-time African champions head into the final lap of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
He took to Twitter to celebrate the victory.
