Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Tonaldo Appiah to be honoured by the Government of Ghana as the new Mamprobi Girls School Astroturf pitch in the Ablekuma South Constituency in Accra is set to be named after him on his 41st birthday.
The ex- Juventus midfielder clocked 41 years today, December, 24, 2021 and his immense contribution to the country has greatly been felt and recognised by his motherland.
He led Ghana as a captain to it first World Cup in 2006- a tournament which was held in Germany after an impressive display in the Africa Cup of Nations the same year in Egypt.
Stephen Appiah, 41, painfully missed out in the 2008 AFCON due to injury but made a sensational return to play a part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where Ghana became the third African country to reach the quarter final stage.
The Mamprobi Girls School park was financed by the Government of Ghana under the Infrastructure For Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), aka “one million dollars per constituency initiative” through CODA will be named after Legendary Stephen Appiah to appreciate his goodworks.
Former players like Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, John Paintsil, Laryea Kingston, Derek Boateng, Isaac Vorsah etc will all be present to grace the ceremony and will also constitute the Stephen Appiah XI to face Mamprobi, Chorkor, Korle-Gonno All Stars in the opening game to be played on the pitch.
Afterwards, lower-tier sides Mighty Victory and Mighty Cosmos will face each other in the second game to complete the event.
