The legendary midfielder is on his way to seal a sensational switch to reigning Ghana Premier League champions ahead of the 2022/23 season’s campaign.
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have reportedly reached an agreement to acquire Sulley Ali Muntari on a free transfer in ongoing transfer window.
Muntari is joining Asante Kotoko on a free transfer after a short stint at their bitterest-rivals Hearts of Oak during the 2021/22 season.
He signed a six-month contract with Hearts of Oak where he helped the one-time CAF Champions League title holders to defend the FA Cup title and also beating Asante Kotoko to win the President Cup.
The 37 year old joined the ‘Phobians’ in the middle of the just-finished season, having made a sensational return into the Ghanaian topflight after leaving two decades ago.
The ex-Black Stars middleman scored one goal and provided three assists in his 14 game outings for Hearts of Oak in all competitions.
According to Sheikh Tophic, Sulley Muntari agrees a 2-year deal with Asante Kotoko. The reds will announce the deal with the former AC Milan, Inter Milan and Portsmouth midfielder in the coming days.
Muntari’s dream is to play in the CAF Champions League for the first time and Asante Kotoko is the only club to offer him such opportunity this season.
Asante Kotoko is Ghana’s sole representative in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League, they have been paired with RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in the first preliminary round of the competition scheduled to commence in September.
