Ex-Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender, Frimpong Manso has urged the top hierarchy of the club to review the season-long self-imposed transfer ban.
The Porcupine Warriors will be unable to sign players for the next season as directed by Life Patron and owner of the club, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.
Frimpong Manso tells Class FM that for the sake of Kotoko’s campaign in Africa, a review of the transfer ban is necessary.
“I am not sure they will want to go to Africa for the sake of going. They will also want to compete. They also want to get to a stage that befits the status of Asante Kotoko.
If you are going then, you know you still have some areas which need strengthening. If there is a ban, it is better they do not go at all. If they want to, they need to make some additions in the team”, he said.
He added “If it is left with the local scene, then I would not have any complain because they can cope with the rest.
But then, when it comes to Africa, that is where I think they will feel the heat. There, they are going to meet much more experienced players and teams. It is going to be difficult for them in Africa. So, I believe they should maybe sit down with the coach. Although they have put a ban on it (transfers), the coach will also need one or two additions”.
The former Black Stars centre back believes a few signings will aid Kotoko to make an impact in the CAF Inter Clubs Competition next season.
“I believe they will need somebody in the middle. With the absence of Songne Yacouba, they will need two or three players before they will be able to compete in the Africa scene.
But in the league, I am so sure even if they don’t get those inclusions, they will be able to compete”.
