Boxing Ghana can exclusively report that VMS Management Inc., President Vincent Scolpino and TMM SPORTS PROMOTION headed by retired professional boxer Emmanuel Addo have officially signed lightweight prospect George Ashie to a three(3) year managerial contract.
Emmanuel Addo, a retired professional boxer turned coach and now based in Oregon in the United States of America and his partner Vincent Scolpino decided to grant one of Ghana’s finest lightweight pugilist George “Red Tiger” Ashie a new leaf in his professional career by extending a three year renewable contract with the Jamestown native.
George “Red Tiger” Ashie born in Accra is a former African Boxing Union super featherweight titlist, Universal Boxing Council (UBC) Super Featherweight, and Commonwealth lightweight champion. The Ghanaian boxer’s career nearly took a nose dive after his defeat to countryman Emmnauel Tagoe for the World Boxing Association (WBA) International lightweight title at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra-Ghana on the 12 November 2012 put together by Babyjet Promotions and Box Office Sports Promotions.
It’s fair to say that Ashie’s career has been bedeviled with controversial decisions as his most recent defeat to Stephen Armond by split decision in the United kingdom two years ago suggest. That was another controversial upset according to the connoisseurs of the game but the Ghanaian has since moved on recording an impressive back to back KOs against Michael Nyawade and Vincent Mbilinyi. Ashie’s record now stands 30 victories, 22 by KOes, 1 draw and 5 defeats. Boxing Ghana will keep readers updated on this developing story.
