Ghana’s Black Princesses have been eliminated from the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at the group stage for the seventh time after losing to Japan 2-0.
Ghana lost its opening game against USA 3-0 and needed to pick a point or win against the Asian giants to have a chance of going into the final group game against The Netherlands.
The Black Princesses showed an improved performance against Japan in the first half after being thrashed 3-0 in the first half against USA in the opening game.
Japan scored two goals from the penalty spot in the 62nd and 72nd minute through Maika Hamano to win the game and book a place in the next round.
The Black Princesses despite qualifying for the tournament for a record sixth time have failed to make it pass the first round.
Ghana will play The Netherlands in the final group game on Tuesday.
Black Princesses have no point in Group D after two round of matches and can only dream of securing a place in the knockout stages by beating Netherlands in the last round.
The Netherlands face USA in the other group game in the round two later today. A win for the Americans in this fixture will confirm Ghana’s elimination from the Mundial.
