Ghana’s National Women’s Cricket team have safely landed in Lagos and set to compete in the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s Women’s T20 Invitational tournament from Sunday, March 26, through to April 3, 2023.
The 14 players and 2 officials who departed from the KIA terminal 3 at 8:55am arrived in Lagos at 11:00am Nigeria Time and headed for their Hotel (Lime Ridge Hotel) to rest.
The tournament, the third edition begins on Monday with host Nigeria coming up against Sierra Leone at 9:30am.
While Ghana finished 4th in the 2nd Edition last year after losing the 3rd place game to Sierra Leone, Rwanda emerged champions after beating host, Nigeria in the finals.
Ghana has however upheld an optimistic target of advancing their previous performance last year.
Led by Coach Obed Harvey and Team Manager, Angela Cassandra Allotey, Ghana will begin their round robin campaign against Rwanda on Monday, March 27, at 13:50 GMT (12:50 GH Time), before they will play Sierra Leone on Tuesday at the same time.
Their third game is against Cameroon on Wednesday, also at 13:50 GMT, after which they will lock horns with rivals Nigeria on Friday March 31 at 9:39 GMT (8:30 GH Time), to determine their position for a final place. Third place game will be on Sunday, at 9:30, while final comes off same day at 13:50 GMT.
The Team had a 10-day residential camping before the tournament and hope to move further in their previous position to appease Ghanaians.
There are meetings on Sunday; Umpires briefing, Press Conference, Captain’s shoot and Technical Briefing.
There has been support from Underground Mining Alliance, and Bel Aqua’s new mineral water, ALKAPLUS, not forgetting TECHNO Mobile.
