Legon Cities continued their run of fine form with another fine game against struggling Elmina Sharks with two beautifully taken goals from Hans Kwofie in the Ghana Premier League’s week 16 fixture.
It took Kwofie only 27 minutes to break the back of the Sharks, before adding another in the early stages of the second half
With the inclusion of their new signings, Legon Cities began the game with their heads up knowing they have secured the best of attackers for the second round of the league.
Having Hans Kwofie, Richmond Antwi, and Justice Anane in their fold, Coach Bashir Hayford opened up play with Baba Mahama and Jonah Attuquaye operating very wide on the field, while sticking to the diminutive Nasiru Moro at the back of the attackers.
With their coach currently locked in discussion with Accra Hearts of Oak for a possible move to the Accra based side, Elmina sharks traveled to the capital without their Head coach who is reported to have picked up a flu.
Cities set the game in motion immediately referee Abdulai Ibrahim set the game rolling with some attacks on their guest, But Laud Bawa Martey in post stood firm to deny them any goal.
Sharks on the other hand relied on swift counter attacking play as a way to catch their host off guard, but the defensive pair of Vincent Adu Gyamfi and Nicholas Mensah were cleaver enough to thwart and efforts from the sharks.
Having worked their opponents back without success, Legon Cities resorted to use the flanks and rely on crosses to their strikers, this seemed to work abit, but they still could not find the net, until the 27th minute when experienced Hans Kwofie out jumped his markers to head home a free kick delivered just on the edge of the box.
Back from the break, Legon Cities went straight into acion again, attacking their guest back to make instant statement, this paid off well with Jonah Attuquaye and hans Kwofie combining effectively to get the second goal, with Sharks playing physical, Legon Cites were rewarded with several free kicks, and in the 47th minute, Jonah Attuquaye delivered a powerful low drive free kick straight to the opponents box, and with Hans Kwofie wondering around to connect beautifully at the blind side of Keeper Bawa in post.
That goal seems to have killed all that Sharks had in the game as all efforts to get a consolation goal proved futile.
