The organisers of the ‘HD+ Kids Armwrestling’ program have announced an increase in prize money and the number of participating regions for its second edition.
The initiative aims to identify talented arm wrestlers in Senior High Schools across Ghana.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and SES HD PLUS, Ghana’s leading high-definition (HD) satellite broadcast service provider, have raised the overall prize money to GH₵200,000 from GH₵70,000 and increased the participating regions to five from three.
The prize money for the overall winner has also been increased from GH₵2,500 to GH₵3,000.
Last year’s inaugural edition was highly successful, with contests held in only three regions. This year’s edition will include contests in the Greater Accra, Bono, Western, Ashanti, and Eastern regions.
The first qualifier is scheduled for April 29, 2023, at the Sunyani Senior High School.
Speaking at the launch of the competition on Monday in Accra, the CEO of SES HD PLUS, Adelaide Ahovy Abbiw-Williams, expressed her delight at the extended partnership with the GAF, saying the initiative was aimed at producing safe and educational programming for children across the country.
The President of the GAF, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed gratitude to SES HD PLUS for extending the sponsorship and was hopeful that the program would produce medallists for Ghana in international competitions.
