Hon Mustapha Ussif Launches 11th Edition of GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human Competition

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif on Monday, April 15, launched the 2024 edition of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation ( GNPC) Ghana’s Fastest Human (GFH) Championship, aimed at unearthing talents to represent at Nation at International competition.

The events which was held at the media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium saw prominent personalities including, Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Executive Secretary to the president of the Republic of Ghana, Retired Justice Stephen Alan Brobby, who was the chairman for the Launch, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Dodzie Numekevor, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh from GNPC, the Executive Chairman LOC for the 13th African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofusu -Asare, Mr. Reks Brobby, the brain behind the events, CEO of the Ghana Athletics, Mr. Bawah Fuseini among others.

Nana Bediatuo Asante In his remarks, saus, the GNPC Ghana Fastest Competition is one of the greatest private sector initiatives which has been extremely successful, as the President is interested and committed to support.

We had the president of the Republic of Ghana, the Vice president all launched this program before. It tells you the Jubilee House is fully behind this initiative”.

“We hope the NSA and the Ministry for Youth and Sports will do their part to make this program to get a national support, particular the facilities to be used for this competition” he argued.

“I am happy to know that, this program was extremely successful. I was told, the sprinters we took to the Tokyo Olympics Games, out of of the seven, five of them came through this program” he added.

The Minister of the Youth and Sports, Hon. mustapha Ussif He commended Reks Brobby and organizers of the Ghana Fastest competition for their commitment and dedication and supporting and also contributing their part in nurturing talents for Ghana, because their are not doing it for themselves but they’re contributing their part in creating career for our young people of our country.

The Minister urged other companies to join in the positive project which started in 2013 and has yielded results as most of the participants have represented Ghana at major international competitions like the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

He also revealed plans are advanced for the Ghana National Games which will begin in the regions and end in the capital, Accra.

The Director General of National Sports Authority, said, the NSA will give their support and make the facilities and their staff available for the Championship.

Mr. Reks Brobby revealed that the Ghana Fastest has become a big brand as many people from different parts of the country now want to perform on the platform it has given to potential athletes.

He urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Athletics to bring back Inter Co and make it popular again.

The maiden edition of the GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human Championship project was first held in 2013 . The Championship had produced a lot of athletes, which includes; Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Emmanuel T20 Yeboah, Sarfo Ansah, Grace Obour, Janet Mensah, Hor Halutie among others.

The annual Championship are held across the country with the regions grouped into zones. The first of the 2024 Championship will be held at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Saturday 11th May. The second meet will take place at the Cape Coast sports Stadium on Saturday 25th May, followed by the Kumasi open on Saturday 15th June at the Baba Yara sports Stadium in Kumasi and the final of finals will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday, 29th June in Accra.
