Ghana’s all time leading scorer Yaw Asamoah Gyan has been honoured by the International Tennis Federation and the Ghana Tennis Federation for his efforts at growing the sport in Ghana.
At a glitzy event attended by the President of the International Tennis Federation David Haggerty in Accra, Gyan who has taken to the sport expressed his humility at the honour done him by the Tennis bodies.
“I am humbled by this honour done. To be honest, this is really humbling. It is true I have taken to the sport in recent times though I have been playing the sport on the quiet for many years.
Everyone knows my football prowess as most of my awards have come from that space and it is not very often that you have other Federations acknowledging your support for them. I am very confident that a lot more talent would come through the ranks and compete for the country as we did with the likes of Frank Ofori, Isaac Donkor, the Atiso brothers and co.”
In his brief remarks, International Tennis Federation boss Haggerty thanked Gyan and the Ghanaian Tennis family for their efforts at growing the sport and wished them the very best for the future.
