Asante Kotoko SC have reportedly parted ways with head coach Mariano Barreto after seven months in charge.
Recent in the local media indicated that the Kotoko management were in talks with Barreto over contract termination.
According to report by Nhyira Fm, the Reds and the Portuguese trainer have reached consensus and have signed papers to mutually terminate the binding contract, pending official announcement by the club.
Barreto took over Kotoko in March this year where he penned a one-and-half-year deal with the Porcupines.
Kotoko at that point were at the top of the log, 7 seven points above eventual league winners and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
Apparently, the experienced gaffer led the club to a second place finish and failed to make the finals of the domestic league cup, exiting in the quarterfinals stage.
The ex-Black Stars coach managed 18 league matches, won 8, drew 6 and lost 4 whereas in the league cup he won 3 out of 4 games, taking his total to 22 matches, 11 wins, 6 draws, and 5 losses in all competitions.
Barreto’s exit pave way for WAFA Coach, Prosper Ogum Nartey to be appointed as the new trainer of Asante Kotoko.
The management have reportedly been in talks with the Black Stars B assistant coach for weeks now and seems to be the obvious replacement for Mariano Barreto.
