The chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) Alhaji Rhyzo has congratulated Real Tamale United (RTU) after the historical qualification to the Ghanaian top-flight after eight years.
Tied on 65 points, RTU secured promotion over Bofoakwa Tano with a better head-to-head after Bofoakwa drew goalies with Berekum Arsenal at the Golden City Park and a RTU got an impressive 2-0 victory over Unity FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
RTU were relegated from the Ghana Premier League in April 2013 after losing 4-1 to New Edubiase United with seven matches to the end of the season. The Pride of the North ended the season without a win in 30 matches – five draws and 25 defeats.
Real Tamale made their debut in the topflight in the 1978 season and finished 3rd on the league log and had since been a force to reckon with.
In a short message from the Regional Football Association Chairman to the club reads;
“RTU’s Victory on Sunday means a lot to the North and I would like to say congratulations to the entire team.
The whole Region have proven that they have an amazing passion for football, and I can say it was truly a pleasure to be part of this success”
However, Real Tamale United now joins Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Lions FC who walk into the ‘table of men’ where ‘kings and Queens dine
