Following days of speculation, Al Ahly have now officially sacked Ricardo Soares just two months after he replaced Pitso Mosimane in the club’s dugout.
The Portuguese tactician was not an immediate success with the record African champions, winning only nine of his first 17 matches in charge, which ultimately led to his dismissal.
“Al Ahly thanks Soares and his assistants and emphasises their appreciation for their great efforts,” a statement from the Red Devils read.

Brought in to recapture the Egyptian Premier League title from Zamalek, the 47-year-old failed to dethrone the Red Devils’ eternal rivals this season.
To compound his failure, for the first time in 30 years, Al Ahly finished outside of the EPL’s top two, and it seems this was an inexcusable finish for the club’s hierarchy.
Soares’ departure comes a day after his side claimed an emphatic 4-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra.
