Known as the Wonder Club of Ghana football, Accra-based Great Olympics have carved a niche for themselves as a side with new tricks under their sleeve and never disappoint in terms of leaving all and sundry amazed, surprised and bamboozled.
In seasons past the two-time Ghana Premier League winners have swapped the top-flight and the lower tier league in rampant succession to the point of the White and Blues losing the tag as the third force of Ghanaian football after giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
A window of opportunity was opened for them to return to the topflight following the appointment of current GFA president Kurt Okraku and the Dade Boys have made good use of the unexpected lease of life.
Olympics, a team with a truckload of monikers, have taken Twitter by storm silencing and bullying other clubs into submission.
However what is slowly becoming a norm for the Landlords of Accra and a curse to other clubs is the knack for teams to show coaches the exit door after losing to Olympics.
It all began with Legon Cities, a side that had invested heavily in player recruitment to the extent of poaching Ghana’s all-time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan, but the Dade Boys threw the financial prowess and glamour of Legon Cities to the gutters and walloped them 3-0 which led to the sack of Serbian trainer Goran Barjakteravic.
Next up was a game against the record holders of the Ghanaian top flight, Asante Kotoko however their assignment in Africa postponed the fixture. Kotoko later picked their first win against Legon Cities and were hoping for a win against Olympics to reinforce their status as title favourites.
However the Dade Boys were at their old tricks again as they pipped their more illustrious counterparts by a lone goal – a feat which proved historic in nature with Kotoko losing a home game against Olympics for the first time since 1994.
Despite Maxwell Konadu’s first loss of the season it proved to be the last straw that broke the camel’s back as the Porcupine Warriors showed Konadu the exit door less than 24 hours after suffering the defeat.
They did it to Goran Barjakteravic, Maxwell Konadu has suffered the same fate and the next coach that loses against coach Annor Walker’s Wonder Boys could be walking through the exit door.
