Samson Deen has been re-elected as President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana for a second term, having run unopposed in the Ghana Paralympic Committee’s 2024 Elective General Assembly.
The assembly took place on October 10, 2024, at the Accra Digital Center, with Mrs. Abigail D.A. Nutakor from the Electoral Commission declaring him the winner.
In his acceptance speech, Deen expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and confidence in his leadership. He emphasized the importance of effective and efficient leadership in promoting para-sports, citing the assembly’s theme, “Effective and Efficient Leadership: Key to Development and Promotion of Para-Sports.”
Deen outlined his vision for his second term, focusing on qualifying Ghanaian athletes for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. He urged the federations to prioritize providing necessary support and attention to athletes, promoting honesty, transparency, and fairness.
“The delegates have placed immense trust in us, believing we can make our vision a reality,” Deen said. “This new term marks a fresh start, with a renewed agenda and commitment to securing qualification for LA28. We must learn from our recent experiences, including our performance in Paris, and work collaboratively to achieve our goals.”
The newly elected NPC Ghana Board members include Evans Yeboah as Vice President, Henry Larbi as Secretary General, and Richard Teinor as Treasurer. Iddriss Ayishetu Farida, Foster Kwarteng, Mary Apedo, and Anthony Gyening were also elected as Executive Members.
Deen also extended appreciation to his opponents, Mr. Sanni Ibrahim and Mr. Tumu, acknowledging their contributions to the NPC and welcoming their continued involvement.
As President of the African Paralympic Committee, Deen has demonstrated his dedication to promoting para-sports in Africa. His re-election as NPC Ghana President is expected to further bolster the development of para-sports in Ghana.
