Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif pledges Gov’t unflinching support for athletes ahead of Tokyo Olympic Games
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has recently renewed a pledge for close collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to enhance the performance of the country’s athletes at the 2020 Takyo Olympic Games to be held in Japan.
The Minister made his commitment to see the success of the athletes when he witnessed the Sponsorship ceremony between the Ghana Olympic Committee and Twellium Industrial Company on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Media Center Accra Sports stadium.
He stressed the need for the country to have a comprehensive plan for the development of Sports to assist the youth since sporting activities is a way to create worth to sustain lives.
“As you are all aware, the sports industry is an emerging area, the industry that the Government of Ghana is focusing on.
“We know is not just for us to just go and participate in Tokyo but even after, because I have gone through the agreement and is two years agreement. It tells me that even after Tokyo, we will still have this Sponsorship to prepare our athletes for future events.
“The Ministry for Youth and Sports recognize sports as an emerging industry, an industry that can create for the Youths of this country jobs, an industry that we can use to improve our health, especially in this current situation. An industry that brings this country together, it is only sports that can bring the whole nation together. So we recognize the important role sports play in our economic development.
“So the Ministry have initiated our programs to ensure that, we prepare the necessary platform for the youth of this country.
“We have also put in place the International Games Committee and the Games Committee has started that work, to prepare us to participate in Tokyo successful whatever logistics that is needed, I can assure you that with the co-operate institution support, Government is also prepared to support the sports industry, especially, the athletes that have qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
” Government will do everything possible to support them to be able to participate in the events successful and we know that with the kind of support that we are going to give them and we know with the kind of training they have gone through, they will lift the Flag of this country high.
“By winning medals, the boxing team, being told they have very good boxers and I have watched their clips and I am very confident that they are going to Tokyo to get us more medals.
Mustapha Ussif expressed gratitude to Twillium, Ashfoam, and Toyota Ghana for their unflinching support towards Ghana’s participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“On behalf of the President of Republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo, I want to thank, Twellium Industrial Company, Ashfoam and Toyota Ghana for this Sponsorship drive to get our athletes prepared and also represent us in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
He also commended the GOC President Ben Nunoo Mensah for working behind the scene to earn the nation the lucrative Sponsorship Deal.
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
