Sports Writers Association of Ghana Commissions New Secretariat

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) on Friday, August 30, 2024, commissioned its new office at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In attendance were:

Former SWAG President, Joe Aggrey
Former SWAG President, Ebo Quansah
Patron of SWAG, His Excellency Amarkai Amarteifio, Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority, Majeed Bawa
Chief Director, Mr. William Kartey
President of the Ghana Swimming Association, Delphina Quaye
President of the Ghana Badminton Association, Evans Yeboah
President of the Ghana Skaters Association, Johnson Gameli Kportufe
Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo, General Secretary of Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Mr. Anthony Baffoe
Other dignitaries, SWAG Executives, and members were also represented.


The Deputy Director General of NSA, Mr. Majeed Bawa, speaking on behalf of the Director, said it was important for the National Sports Authority to provide SWAG with an office space. “Today is a beautiful day in the history of SWAG, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority, and SWAG.”


Former SWAG President, Mr. Joe Aggrey, commended the current SWAG Executives for their achievement. He charged sports journalists to be disciplined in their line of duty, contributing to national development.

Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. William Kartey, was pleased with the new office and vowed to work collaboratively with SWAG to achieve common goals. He urged sports journalists to focus on positive stories, citing the recent African Games.

SWAG President, Mr. Sports Writers Association of Ghana Kwabena Yeboah, expressed pride in the Association’s achievement. “Our new secretariat represents a major step forward in our journey to create a conducive environment for sports writers to thrive.”


He thanked members, stakeholders, and partners, including the Minister, Ministry of Youth and Sports, former Director General of NSA Prof. Peter Twumasi, and Deputy Director General Mr. Majeed Bawah.


Yeboah challenged journalists to strive for excellence and use the new office to promote Ghanaian sports globally. “Let us make this new office a beacon of sports promotion, development, and journalism excellence in Ghana! To corporate Ghana, stakeholders, and partners, we are open for business.”
