The Ayews, is arguably, the most successful football family in Africa, and one of the most renowned in the world.
The trailblazer of this special family is Abedi Pele Ayew, Ghana’s greatest footballer, in my opinion.
Abedi terrorised Europe and conquered Africa, winning league titles in Europe, the Champions League, and was also crowned Africa’s best footballer of the year on three .
Together with his brother, Kwame, and the lesser known Sola, they made Ayew, a household name in Ghana.
However, one thing, priceless indeed, eluded Abedi Pele; that is playing at the prestigious FIFA World Cup with his beloved Black Stars. He tried and tried but he could not realise that dream.
Interestingly, what eluded the early generation of the Ayews, has now been realised, in spectacular fashion, by the new generation of the Ayews.
Abedi Pele’s three sons; Rahim, Andre and Jordan, who all followed the golden footsteps of their legendary father, have all appeared at the World Cup.
As Ghana gets ready to start another world cup campaign in Qatar, the Ayews will be making a combined 6th appearances at the World Cup. That is 1 for Rahim, 2 for Jordan and 3 for Andre.
For Andre, he will not only be appearing at his third FIFA World Cup, he is also Ghana’s most capped player.
What an achievement!
Andre may not be anywhere near his father, the great Abedi Pele. But he has achieved something his father could only dream about, without realising it.
One thing is, however, certain; the happiest man in this fascinating story, is the Maestro himself, Abedi Pele.
May our children be better than us in every good standard we set.
