Qatari club Al Saad, managed by Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez have expressed their interest in signing Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Poku, according to a report by Kumasi-based Fox FM.
The striker has been sensational following his move from second-tier side Nkoranza Warriors to the Porcupines in 2020. Opoku has quickly established himself as an instrumental member of the team, scoring goals for fun in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
The forward has caught interest from clubs in the North African region including Egyptian giants Zamalek and now Qatari side Al Saad following impressive outings for the Kumasi-based side.
According to reports gathering from Fox FM, Sporting Director of Al-Saad, Abdul Hussein was at the Accra Sports Stadium to have a fair assessment of the striker on Sunday during Asante Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup playoff game against ES Setif which Opoku was on target for the Porcupines in their 1-2 defeat.
Close source indicates that, Xavi Hernandez Cruz was impressed by the performance Opoku churned out against Liberty Professionals including those outstanding goals he scored, hence tasked Abdul Hussein to come and assess the player in the Setif game.
Opoku has plundered seven goals in 13 matches for Asante Kotoko so far this season in the Ghana premier league and once in three African games for the Reds.
