Egypt forward Omar Marmoush lauded his teammates’ fighting spirit that led to the team’s 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday in their second Nations Cup group stage game.
“We showed great spirit and proved what we are capable of. We played well and were able to get back in the game,” Marmoush said after the match.
Egypt twice came from behind, with goals from Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed, to salvage a point from the contest. The Pharaohs remain in second place after securing two draws in Group D.
“We play like a team, attack in a block, and defend in a block. It doesn’t matter who scores or who assists; the most important thing is that the team wins. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to claim the full points tonight.
“We will analyze our performance tonight and start preparing for the next game. We will only be looking for victory, as always, to secure qualification,” added Marmoush.
The Pharaohs are set to face Cape Verde, who stunned Ghana 2-1 in the first game, on Monday, January 22. They must secure a win to avoid an embarrassing end to their Nations Cup journey.
